1939: THE TODHUNTER SCHOOL MERGER

First Lady and Todhunter School Vice Principal Eleanor Roosevelt, who admired the work of Helen Parkhurst, promotes a merger between the Todhunter School and Dalton.

During a field trip to Washington, D.C. the prior year, students met First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt who “attired in sports clothes, rushed in, shook hands very graciously, chatted for a few minutes, told an amusing story and dashed out. We liked the First Lady all the more for her informality.”
