Beginning in 1940, annual month long excursions are made to Buck’s Rock School in New Milford, Connecticut a camp Parkhurst built on her property.

During weekly trips around Connecticut to study New England, students “tramped through New England, visiting old churches and virgin forests and discussing Emerson’s essays.”
The Dalton Annual, 1943

“…the faculty and students moved for a month to Buck’s Rock School. There were student-faculty committees formed to work in the kitchen, clean the dormitories, plan recreation, run a newspaper, etc.”
The Dalton Annual, 1945

“To avoid promiscuous evacuation of children—such as occurred in London when hostilities broke out—in the event New York City is imperiled by enemy bombers, a model evacuation plant, consisting of three dormitories and dinning hall, at cost of $8,000 a piece, and made of California redwood, is now undergoing practical test at Buck’s Rock, New Milford, Conn.”
