1914-1916—Montessori Normal School and College

After traveling to Italy to study with the great Maria Montessori, Helen Parkhurst is named Montessori’s United States representative and they establish the Montessori Normal School and College. This demonstration school, with a class of 12–15 children of nursery and primary age, is housed in a brownstone on West 74th Street. Students of the Normal College also live and work in the building.
